Paddling Against the Tide: Trent Collett’s 6-Hour Challenge for Mental Health Awareness
Meet Trent Collett, a dedicated family man, sales representative, and advocate for mental health awareness from Bahrs Scrub. With a wife and two young children as his inspiration, Trent constantly seeks ways to challenge himself while making a positive impact on others’ lives.
Trent’s latest endeavor, the ‘6-Hour-Paddle’ initiative, is no exception. Known for taking on daunting challenges to raise funds for causes close to his heart, Trent embarked on this journey after discovering stand-up paddleboarding just eight weeks prior. Despite his initial lack of experience, the allure of being out on the water along the Gold Coast was irresistible.
But why choose LIVIN as the beneficiary of his efforts? For Trent, the decision was deeply personal. A decade ago, he grappled with depression, struggling to reconcile his outgoing nature with his inner turmoil. Through LIVIN’s message of “it ain’t weak to speak,” Trent found solace and understanding, prompting him to shed light on the importance of mental health awareness.
Supporting mental health awareness isn’t just a cause for Trent – it’s a mission. Having experienced the stigma surrounding mental health firsthand, he emphasises the need for open dialogue and understanding. Trent believes that by recognising the signs and offering support, we can create a more compassionate society for those in need.
For anyone struggling with their mental health, Trent’s advice is simple yet powerful: don’t be afraid to speak up. Opening up about his own struggles led to a profound connection with a friend facing similar challenges, reinforcing the importance of reaching out for support.
To support Trent’s initiative, donations can be made through his LIVIN fundraiser page. However, even if financial contributions aren’t feasible, sharing LIVIN’s message on social media can make a difference in breaking down the barriers surrounding mental health.
On March 9th, at Budds Beach boat ramp in Surfers Paradise, Trent will paddle from 7 am to 1 pm, inviting others to join him for a paddle or share a cold beer afterward. It’s more than a physical challenge – it’s a symbol of resilience and hope for anyone facing their own battles with mental health.
Trent’s journey reminds us that through courage, compassion, and community support, we can paddle against the tide of stigma and support mental health awareness.
